The US Army War College used the VUCA acronym, following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001. Military strategists recognized that a radically different and unfamiliar international security environment that had emerged. Around the same time the first concepts & designs of 6D™ emerged from  work with U.S. Customs & military.

VUCA stands for:

• Volatility – change is rapid and unpredictable in its nature and scope.
• Uncertainty – numerous unknowns and an uncertain future.
• Complexity – many & various, interconnected factors and reliance. 
• Ambiguity – there’s a lack of clarity or awareness about situations.
